Resolution Guide

Determining the proper scan resolution will depend on the size of the original being scanned and

what you intend to use the image for in the future. Even if your current intention is only to archive

your photos for preservation, you may want to consider that in the future prints could be made from

these scans, so you would want to make sure that the scans are suitable for quality printing.

The standard print resolution for most home printers is 300 to 600 DPI, although if you have access

to a photo printer the resolution could be 4800 or higher. It is important to keep in mind that while

it is always possible to produce a smaller image with a large digital file, you cannot enlarge a small

file without loosing quality. The tables below are based on printing at 300 dpi and will give you a

general idea of the resolution that will be needed for your images. If you have further questions

regarding selecting resolution please use the contact us form or send e-mail to Customer_Support@snapshotconversions.net
